The Classical Christian Lower School Cohort
Cohort Description
To be considered a thriving school we must clearly and courageously articulate why and how we are Christ-centered and deeply rooted in the classical tradition. Our goal in the lower school is to build the foundation of knowledge to produce well-educated and informed students, but most importantly, men and women who want to glorify God and enjoy him forever. Our desire should be to cultivate wisdom and virtue in our lower school students and encourage them as they mature into wise and virtuous adults. We begin with the end in mind, which requires determination to establish a lower school that takes seriously the fact that every decision we make will either point students away or toward truth, goodness, beauty, virtue, and a love of learning. Our effort is to intentionally form students’ loves and habits, knowing it affects the entire person-body, soul, mind, will, and affections. Christian, classical education is what we do and how we do it matters. The knowledge of this truth should inform our curriculum, culture, hiring of teachers, recess, and every facet of our school.
In this cohort we will work together to ensure our lower schools are courageously Christian and deeply classical. We will work through 8 modules that will help us create a culture that has a strong Biblical worldview, virtue training, reading, and memorizing God’s word. We will discuss how to hire and train teachers who will lead and shape students, effective ways to handle conflict, develop scope and sequence, and teach classically using the practices of memorization, narration, didactic, dialectic, and Socratic methods.
Each session will include time to discuss “real time” problems we are experiencing as leaders and prayer. This cohort is new and different from the previous lower school cohorts. It is for all levels of lower school leaders with all levels of experience, with an understanding that we are continually growing and learning in this movement, all leaders are invited to participate.

Jessica Gombert
Jessica Gombert is in her 25th year in classical, Christian education and 21st year as the Grammar School Headmaster at Geneva School of Boerne. She holds a M.A. in Education. She delights in teaching students to become life-long learners and in leading and encouraging educators. She is dedicated to classical, Christian education and believes it shapes and forms students to become liberal artists who can read, write, speak, listen, think, understand and create, while growing in virtue. Jessica has led The Society for Classical Learning's Grammar School Head Cohort for several years and has presented at numerous conferences. She is passionate about reading instruction and is writing a series of phonics readers. She also has a love for serving children and educators in Africa. She has taught and trained teachers in Zambia, Uganda, Rwanda and Nigeria. Jessica is married to Ronnie, her husband of 34 years, and has two married children who were blessed to be classically educated. She and her French Bulldog, Hamilton, are a trained therapy team and visit nursing homes to bring joy.
