Compensation By Design: Building a Sustainable Compensation Philosophy for Christian Schools
Seminar Description
Compensation is one of the most important strategic decisions a Christian school makes, yet many schools inherit compensation systems rather than intentionally designing them.
In this seminar, we’ll briefly explore the principles behind a sustainable, mission-aligned compensation philosophy. Participants will examine how compensation intersects with tuition strategy, budgeting, fundraising, governance, and long-term institutional health. Rather than focusing on salary schedules, this session provides leaders with a framework for making compensation decisions that attract and retain exceptional faculty while preserving financial durability.
Topics will include:
-
Why every school needs a written compensation philosophy
-
Aligning compensation with mission and strategic priorities
-
Understanding market data without becoming market-driven
-
Balancing equity, merit, affordability, and sustainability
-
The board’s role versus the administration’s role
-
Practical first steps toward a healthier compensation model
